Portland Timbers had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Houston Dynamo in their previous encounter.
The Timbers made a fantastic start to the game with Diego Valeri opening the scoring in the 13 minute with a brilliant shot off the crossbar. Mauro Manolas equalised for Dynamo in the 37th minute following a goalkeeping error from Jake Gleeson which allowed him a shot on goal. The Timbers made it 2-1 before the break with Valeri setting up Sebastian Blanco who bagged his fourth goal of the campaign. Dynamo looked to be headed for their first home defeat of 2017 but Juan Cabezas popped a brilliant header from a free kick to level scores nine minutes from time. Meanwhile, LA Galaxy settled for a 0-0 draw against high-flying Seattle Sounders, a result which sees them positioned ninth in the Western Conference.
The Timbers are comfortably positioned fourth in the Western Conference, but their recent form has not been promising with just a solitary win in five attempts.
They last tasted a home victory in early June, and they will have the opportunity of ending this run on Monday. Diego Valeri is their top-scorer with 11 goals in 23 outings. On the other hand, it has not been smooth sailing for LA Galaxy, who find themselves with just one point from their previous 15. The Eastern Conference are winless in their last six games, and they will need to come up with a performance at the Providence Park. Romain Alessandrini is their leading scorer with eight goals in 20 outings.
Judging by their recent form, Portland Timbers are firm favourites to win the game at 1/2 while Galaxy could be tipped for a potential upset at 11/2. Galaxy have leaked goals in their recent league outings, but they could be tipped to keep a clean sheet at 6/1. The Timbers are at 6/4 for the same despite having failed to keep a solid backline since early June.
