Tottenham are overwhelming favourites to secure a win against archrivals Arsenal in the League Cup and secure bragging rights for the next few weeks.
Arsenal have suffered back-to-back defeats in two different competitions and their confidence is unlikely to be high. Tottenham, meanwhile, have managed two consecutive victories in the league and it puts them just one point behind Arsenal in the table. For all the perceived poor form shown by Spurs at the start of the campaign, Mauricio Pochettino’steam appear to be heading in the right direction. A victory against Arsenal in the League Cup may once again confirm this fact.
There is, however, a huge possibility of both teams coming out with their reserves squads for this game. This will make it extremely difficult to predict in the game. If it is the case, Arsenal are likely to be slight favourites for a win. It is the case with bookmakers who are backing the gunners at 13/10 for a victory whereas odds for a Spurs win are available at 19/10. There will be no replays with regard to the League Cup and the game will go into extra time if there is a stalemate between the two teams after 90 minutes. The odds of extra time are given at 5/2.
“Francis Coquelin will be out and we have no major problems for anybody else. It should be a similar squad. His knee is swollen and he is being assessed but we hope it is just a short-term problem.I want to keep the squad together. We go game by game so I will make changes, for sure. How many [youngsters will play]? I’ve not decided yet. It will be quite an experienced squad with one or two younger players,” said Wenger ahead of the game at White Hart Lane.
